    Author's details Jiacan Su is the Department Head of Institute of Translational Medicine, Shanghai University, Shanghai and chief physician of Orthopedics Department, Shanghai Changhai Hospital, Second Military Medical University, Shanghai. Professor Su received his bachelor degree (1999) and M.D. (2004) from Second Military Medical University. He worked as a postdoctoral researcher with Prof. Changsheng Liu at East China University of Science and Technology (2009-2011) and visiting scholar at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (2005-2006), AO centre, Davos (2009), University of Hamburg (2011) and Tampa General Hospital, Tampa (2013), respectively. He was promoted as attending physician (2004) and chief physician & full professor (2015) in the Department of Orthopaedics, Changhai Hospitial Affiliated to SMMU.     Abstract The purpose of this study is to assess the influence of sex hormones and other indicators on risk factors for hypercoagulable states in male patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Ninety-two diabetic patients were divided into two groups based on testosterone levels: T1 group (testosterone <12 mmol/L) and T2 group (testosterone >12 mmol/L). Fifty-four non-diabetic patients were used as the control group. Sex hormone index, glucose, insulin, C-peptide, 24-h urinary free cortisol, thromboelastography, and insulin resistance index were measured by radioimmunoassay.     Abstract Objectives: Recently, model for end-stage liver disease-lactate (MELD-LA) proved to be a superior predicting factor of inpatient mortality in patients with chronic liver disease. The study's objective was to evaluate the ability of MELD-LA to predict both short- and long-term mortality in critically ill cirrhotic patients stratified by causes of cirrhosis.
    Materials and methods: This was a retrospective observational research of 469 cirrhotic patients entering intensive care unit. Clinical parameters and prognostic scores were measured and collected in the first 24 hours after entering intensive care unit. Follow-up duration was at least 5 years. Independent relationship between MELD-LA and mortality was evaluated by multivariate logistic regression analyses. Discrimination of scoring system was evaluated by the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve. Calibration of the score was evaluated by Hosmer-Lemeshow goodness of fit test for significance.
    Results: The MELD-LA score (odds ratio: 1.179, 95% confidence interval: 1.112-1.250,
    Conclusions: MELD-LA performs better for predicting short-term prognosis in critically ill cirrhotic patients, especially caused by both alcohol and hepatitis or alcohol alone.

    Abstract Background: The increasing global incidence of cesarean section has prompted efforts to reduce cesarean delivery rates. A trial of labor after cesarean (TOLAC) has emerged as an alternative to elective repeat cesarean delivery (ERCD) for women with a prior cesarean delivery. However, the available evidence on the comparative outcomes of these 2 options remains inconsistent, primarily due to varying advantages and risks associated with each. Our meta-analysis aims to compare the maternal-neonatal results in TOLAC and ERCD in women with prior cesarean deliveries.
    Methods: A comprehensive search was performed in PubMed, Embase, Cochrane library databases up to September,2022 to identity studies evaluating perinatal outcomes in women who underwent TOLAC compared to ERCD following a previous cesarean delivery. The included studies were subjected to meta-analysis using RevMan 5.3 software to assess the overall findings.
    Results: A total of 13 articles were included in this meta-analysis. Statistically significant differences were identified in the rate of uterine rupture (OR = 2.01,95%CI = 1.48-2.74, P < .00001) and APGAR score < 7 at 5 minutes (OR = 2.17,95%CI = 1.69-2.77, P < .00001) between the TOLAC and ERCD groups. However, no significant differences were observed in the rates of hysterectomy, maternal blood transfusion, postpartum infection, postpartum hemorrhage and neonatal intensive care unit (P ≥ .05) admission between the 2 groups.
    Conclusions: Our analysis revealed that TOLAC is associated with a higher risk of uterine rupture and lower incidence APGAR score < 7 at 5 minutes compared to ERCD. It is vital to consider predictive factors when determining the appropriate mode of delivery in order to ensure optimal pregnancy outcomes. Efforts should be made to identify the underlying causes of adverse outcomes and implement safety precautions to select suitable participants and create safe environments for TOLAC.

    Abstract A transition to a more sustainable society is occurring worldwide and necessitates a change in people's ways of consuming. Self-transcendence (ST) is recognized as a key predictor of green consumption. Thus, a multiple intermediary model was developed to clarify the psychological mechanisms underlying ST and its influence on consumption. The model was tested using data from a nationally representative sample of 428 Chinese participants. The results show that ST's overall positive effect on green consumption is realized via four indirect paths: (1) the simple mediating role of nature connectedness between ST and green consumption, (2) the simple mediating role of social connectedness between ST and green consumption; (3) the chain-mediating role of construction of meaning in life (CoMIL) and nature connectedness, and (4) the chain-mediating role of CoMIL and social connectedness. Among these paths, nature connectedness plays the most critical mediating role for the Chinese, accounting for the greatest proportion of the total indirect effect. The study advances understanding of the influence and path of ST on green consumption, and provides theoretical and practical support for guiding people toward sustainable lifestyles.
