Abstract Balanitis set in practice an aetiological and therapeutical problem. The clinical aspect is not specific except for the pustules which evoke a candidiasis. The mycological and bacteriological cultures should be performed in accordance with the clinical context. The biopsy is useful in case of chronic balanitis resistant to the treatment. Irritation and candidal infection are the main causes. Herpes and primary syphilis should be systematically ruled out. The treatment should not be aggressive and must take into account the possible psychological impact.

Titelübersetzung Dissecting cellulitis of the scalp: a retrospective study of 7 cases confirming the efficacy of oral isotretinoin.
Abstract Background: Dissecting cellulitis of the scalp (DCS) is a rare and long-standing disease and its aetiopathogenesis remains unclear. Various therapeutic alternatives exist. We attempted to assess the efficacy of oral isotretinoin in a series of patients.
Patients and methods: Seven cases of DCS followed and treated by one of the authors at the Sabouraud Centre in the Saint-Louis Hospital between 2007 and 2013 were retrospectively studied and the efficacy of oral isotretinoin was evaluated.
Results: The seven patients included were males aged between 22 and 39 years, with alopecic nodules on the occiput (two cases) or the top of the vertex (five cases). Most patients were given oral isotretinoin at a dosage of 0.75mg/kg/day for at least nine months. The outcome was satisfactory with complete healing of the lesions and good regrowth in all cases. Follow-up after recovery lasted between 16 and 42 months.
Conclusion: Based on published studies and the results of the present study, oral isotretinoin at a dose of 0.75mg/kg/day may be proposed as first-line treatment for DCS.

Abstract Background: Alopecic and aseptic nodules of the scalp (AANS) is a new entity reported first in Japan as 'pseudocyst of the scalp'. Only retrospective studies have been published.
Objectives: To describe the clinicopathological features of AANS (pseudocyst), to evaluate the response to doxycycline and to compare the results to those obtained from patients with dissecting cellulitis of the scalp (DCS).
Methods: Fifteen patients with AANS and 7 with DCS were prospectively included. A puncture and a biopsy were made. Patients were treated with doxycycline (100 mg/day) for 3 months.
Results: AANS affects predominantly young (mean age 29.7 years), Caucasian (11/15), male (14/15) patients. The main location of the nodules was the occiput. The associated alopecia was nonscarring. Material from the puncture was aseptic. The histopathology showed a deep granuloma in 7 of 14 patients and a nonspecific inflammation in 7 patients. After 3 months, 8 patients were cured and 3 had a good response.
Conclusions: The singular aspect of the nodules, the nonscarring alopecia, the deep inflammatory infiltrate and the efficacy of doxycycline confer specificity to AANS.
