Abstract The aim of this review is to gather information on key controlling parameters affecting resistant starch (RS) formation, different strategies for its enhancement and to direct future prospect of viable RS enhancement technologies in whole rice. To achieve this, a thorough literature review is done, and the possible ways are suggested. People in developing countries rely on starch‐based whole rice. Excessive rice consumption may promote several potential health diseases, such as obesity, type II diabetes, and the risk of colorectal cancer. RS, functionally similar to dietary fiber, could effectively minimize and control such health diseases. Therefore, successive progress in the enhancement of RS content in starch‐based powder or flour has been achieved through the improvement of functional attributes of starch with the adoption of different methodologies (genetic, physical, chemical, and enzymatic treatments). However, as people primarily consume starch‐rich whole rice grains in their regular diet than diets with rice flour, the functional attributes of whole rice grains without destroying its native structure and wholesomeness should be developed. Physical treatment could be more inexpensive and effective than chemical and enzymatic methods while applying on whole rice grains. But it does not improve as much RS level in whole rice as compared to other methods. Hence, one or more physical treatments could be combined with each other or may be conjugated with chemical or enzymatic treatment for significant improvement of rice RS. PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS: Recently, people are much concerned about functional diets which are capable to provide nutritive value as well as to minimize potential health diseases. Such awareness enhances the consumption of resistant starch, like dietary fiber. Cereals like rice contain meager amount of resistant starch. Hence, the demand for resistant starch in our body cannot be fulfilled through rice consumption. The only way to resolve this problem is to enhance resistant starch content in whole rice grains through developing different process modification (physical, chemical, and enzymatic). To develop such modified process technologies, a detailed knowledge on the key controlling parameters affecting starch RS formation and different strategies for enhancement of RS content is required. This review explores the current status of RS enhancement strategies and tried to explore the possible future directions of viable RS enhancement technologies for whole grain.

Abstract A new highly emissive pH-responsive near-IR active digital probe was designed and synthesized. The probe is based on a bisbenzothiazole motif with a highly vulnerable hydrogen unit attached in an intramolecular fashion. The probe produced a large Stokes shift which was observed to be highly pH dependent. The optical pH dependence can be used for sensing pH over a wide range.

Abstract We report the magnetic field and particle-concentration dependent steady-state shear-responses of rod shaped Li-Zn ferrite particle based magnetorheological fluids (MRFs). Rod-shaped soft ferrimagnetic Li-Zn ferrite (Li0.4Zn0.2Fe2.4O4) particles were synthesized using the combustion synthesis method. MRFs of three different particle-concentrations (φ = 0.1, 0.2 and 0.4, in weight fraction) were prepared using silicone oil. Their yield strength and dynamic viscosity were studied at different applied magnetic fields (B). With an increase in B and φ, the yield strength (τY) of the MRFs increases. This behaviour is assigned to the formation of stronger columnar structures of the magnetically interacting particles which resist the flow (shear) of the MRF. For the MRF with φ = 0.4 and B = 1.2 T, we observed a maximum τY value of ∼1.25 kPa. Furthermore, we observed that, based on the on-state to off-state viscosity ratio (ηon/ηoff) at a particular operating B value, the optimum particle concentration required for energy- and cost-efficient operation of the MRFs can be chosen. The absence of a stabilizing-agent or de-agglomerating-coating, the low density, and the excellent oxidation- and corrosion-resistance of the soft ferrimagnetic rod-shaped Li-Zn ferrite particles make this MRF-system highly versatile and economical for many magneto-mechanical applications.

Abstract Aim: Exosomes, as a nanocarrier for the co-delivery of biologicals and small anticancer molecules is yet in its infancy. Herein, we investigated hUCBMSC derived exosomes as a biogenic nanocarrier for the co-delivery of tumor suppressor miR-125a and microtubule destabilizing Docetaxel (DTX) to target the proliferative and migratory aggressiveness of the murine TNBC 4T1 cells.
Main methods: In this study, hUCBMSCs from the human umbilical cord blood cells (hUCB) were successfully transfected with miR-125a. Thereafter, DTX was encapsulated into both non-transfected and transfected exosomes by optimized mild sonication-incubation technique. The anticancer efficiency of hUCBMSC Exo-DTX and miR-125a Exo-DTX was compared by MTT and morphometric assay. The prominent anti-metastatic behaviour of the latter was confirmed by in-vitro wound healing and transwell invasion assay. Further, the synergistic effect of miR-125a and DTX was confirmed by F-actin and nuclear degradation by confocal and FESEM assay.
Key findings: hUCBMSC exosomes exhibited DTX payload of 8.86 ± 1.97 ng DTX/ μg exosomes and miRNA retention capacity equivalent to 12.31 ± 5.73 %. The co-loaded formulation (miR-125a Exo-DTX) exhibited IC
Significance: The synergistic anticancer and anti-metastatic effect of miR-125a Exo-DTX was observed due to presence of both DTX and miR-125a as the cargo of hUCBMSC derived exosomes.

Abstract Background In the neurosurgical population, opioids may cause respiratory depression, leading to hypercapnia, increased cerebral blood flow (CBF), and ultimately increased intracranial pressure (ICP), which can mask early signs of intracranial complications and delayed emergence. This study was designed to compare perioperative hemodynamic stability, analgesia, and recovery parameters in opioid-based (fentanyl) general anesthesia versus opioid-sparing (dexmedetomidine) general anesthesia in patients undergoing glioma surgeries. Methodology This prospective observational comparative study compared 52 patients in two groups. Twenty-six (50%) patients in group F received Inj. fentanyl IV (intravenous; bolus 2 mcg/kg 10 minutes before induction and then infusion 1 mcg/kg/hour till 30 minutes before skin closure), whereas 26 (50%) patients in group D received Inj. dexmedetomidine IV (0.5 mcg/kg infusion 10 minutes before induction and then maintenance with a 0.5 mcg/kg/hour infusion till 30 minutes before skin closure). Perioperative heart rate (HR), mean arterial pressure (MAP), Numerical Rating Scale for Pain (NRS) assessment and postoperative emergence time, modified Aldrete score, patient satisfaction, and surgeon satisfaction score were estimated and compared in both groups. Results The mean HR was less in group D compared to group F at following time points - 10 minutes after infusion (

Abstract Exosomes, as a nanocarrier for the co-delivery of biologicals and small anticancer molecules is yet in its infancy. In this study, hUCBMSCs from the human umbilical cord blood cells (hUCB) were successfully transfected with miR-125a. Further, the synergistic effect of miR-125a and DTX was confirmed by F-actin and nuclear degradation by confocal and FESEM assay. hUCBMSC exosomes exhibited DTX payload of 8.86 ± 1.97 ng DTX/ μg exosomes and miRNA retention capacity equivalent to 12.31 ± 5.73 %. The co-loaded formulation (miR-125a Exo-DTX) exhibited IC₅₀ at 192.8 ng/ml in 4T1 cells, which is almost 2.36 folds' lower than the free DTX IC₅₀ (472.8 ng/ml). Additionally, miR-125a Exo-DTX treatment caused wound broadening upto 6.14±0.38 % while treatment with free DTX and miR-125a exosomes alone caused 18.71±4.5 % and 77.36±10.4 % of wound closure respectively in 36 h. miR-125a Exo-DTX treatment further exhibited significantly reduced invasiveness of 4T1 cells (by 3.5 ± 1.8 %) along with prominent cytoskeletal degradation and nuclear deformation as compared to the miR-125a exosomes treated group. The miR-125a expressing DTX loaded exosomal formulation clearly demonstrated the synergistic apoptotic and anti-migratory efficiency of the miR-125a Exo-DTX. The synergistic anticancer and anti-metastatic effect of miR-125a Exo-DTX was observed due to presence of both DTX and miR-125a as the cargo of hUCBMSC derived exosomes.

Abstract We report the steady-state shear response of polydisperse Ni-Zn ferrite-submicrospheres-based magnetorheological fluids (MRFs). The Ni-Zn ferrite spherical particles were prepared by solvothermal method. MRFs of three different concentrations (10, 20 and 40 wt%) were prepared by dispersing Ni-Zn ferrite submicrospheres in silicone oil. These MRFs were subjected to steady-state shear conditions, at different applied magnetic fields. Dynamic yield strength values corresponding to different applied field strengths showed increase in value with increase in magnetic field strength. Furthermore, the dynamic yield strength scaled up with the concentration of Ni-Zn ferrite spherical particles in the carrier fluid. Comparison of the dynamic yield strengths for the MRFs showed that the values depend strongly on the physical properties of the particles such as the particle size, size-distribution (polydispersity) and the saturation magnetization.

Abstract Background: Hyperkalaemia in oleander (Nerium oleander) poisoning has been associated with a poor prognosis. Different electrocardiographic (ECG) presentations are possible because of vagotonia and hyperkalaemia. Methods/Results: We report a series of three cases of oleander poisoning in which ECG showed unusual hyperkalaemia features, such as bradyarrhythmia, sinoatrial block, atrioventricular block and junctional rhythm. Conclusions: If arterial blood gas analysis or laboratory values indicate hyperkalaemia in oleander poisoning, the hyperkalaemia should be treated immediately, even if the ECG does not show typical hyperkalaemia features.
